3 year old trying to drop nap but is miserable by 5pm

+1 to early bedtime. We moved our daughter's up about an hour (she was falling asleep at 8:30, and now she falls asleep at 730). Also, keep trying with quiet time! I thought we were being silly by enforcing quiet time, but we tried to skip it last weekend and DD got so confused and irritable by the end of the afternoon. I guess quiet time really is a valuable rest period for her, even though she's not sleeping.

This is why my 3 and 4 year old go to bed at 6:15.

This is OP. For those of you recommending an early bedtime, do your kids sleep through the night? I have been putting her to bed at 7pm (8:30 is her usual). She has no problem falling asleep, and I’m sure I could put her to bed even earlier. But the problem is that she wakes up at least twice during the night and has trouble falling back to sleep.

I’m a PP. Yes, my daughter sleeps through the night (11/12 hrs) with her earlier bedtime.

If nothing else is going on mine (3.5) sleeps through the night (growth spurt/sickness disrupts). Bed at 6:30, awake at 5:30/6. He dropped his nap at 2. For him, he has a set wake time and it doesn’t matter how late he goes to bed, he’s always up at 5:30/6. A later bed means an even crankier child. To deal with this, we got an okay to wake clock and taught him go stay in his room until it’s green.

Maybe white noise? Limiting liquids an hour before bed? Why is she waking up?

Yes, she should still sleep through the night. She still needs the same amount of sleep, she’s just consolidating it into night sleep. I agree with dark curtains and a white noise machine to help with night wake ups. And maybe a nightlight if you don’t already have one.
