DC/VA neighborhoods that are great for black families

Lots of black professionals in Hillcrest and Penn Branch if you want to stay in DC proper. Only issue is those houses get snapped up quick in that price range.

More Africans than African Americans.

Not familiar with MOCO. Also would like a healthy amount of diversity as I want my black child to maintain a sense of identity. Hate to ask this question but there it is.

You are concerned about schools and police but okay with DC schools?
I would recommend Prince William County especially the Woodbridge area as there is a large middle and upper middle class blacks in the area and the schools are ok.

Np here, wow I considered starting a similar thread yesterday. I am also black, in the process of moving, and heavily basing my decision where to move on the needs of my AA son.

I want to live in peace and want the same for my son. Anywhere with even the slightest hint of racism is out, as is PG county. I currently live in SS, and honestly think this is one of the few areas in the region that is truly diverse. I wish options weren't so limited, but they appear to be.

This plus Gaithersburg, Rockville, Germantown.

Options are limited because almost everyone on here excludes the largest county in MD. Lol. I honestly don’t feel bad for people that complain about being priced out or their long commutes. That’s what happens when you overlook an area that has immediate access to both DC and VA (depending on where you live). Furthermore, schools and crime in DC can be actually worst. But yea, let’s continue with this narrative against PG. It absolutely has its problems, but it’s not alone. Some of you could help be the solution, but I digress. Hope you find what you’re looking for. Try Charles county.

Sell me on neighborhoods in Moco. I did paint a broad brush. My bad. Sell me a neighborhood and I’ll add it to the list on the house hunt. 650k is my max. If I have to put my child in private school then we can lower that by about 10k-12k. I’m genuinely looking for a forever home and want a strong and diverse community where black people aren’t victimized by either police nor the community. -OP

Reston, particularly South Reston, is very diverse.

OP, I think the PP meant PG county. I lived very briefly in Bowie and it seemed nice, and I’ve heard college Park is good for families and housing. But I can’t speak at all about race there as I have no idea.

Yes correction- I meant PG COUNTY. Actively looking at the suggested areas and seeing a number of homes in my budget. -OP

How about Manor Park or Takoma (DC)?

I’ve looked in Takoma and it’s really popular. If I find a home there in my price range- it’s doesn't last long at all. I worry the competition is too tough for that area.

+1
My Rainier, Hyattsville, College Park have homes in OP's price range but they've ruled out an entire county.
