I work for GAO (we were in SF, now Oakland). We’re ramping up hiring at least in HQ because of all the federal spending to audit. You may want to keep an eye out for postings - your background may be the right fit.

NP. PP, if you are still reading, can you say a little more? I worked at a sister agency in DC (GS-15 analyst/social scientist) but followed my spouse to the SF Bay Area when he got a major promotion. I've always thought I'd be a good fit for GAO but others have told me GAO prefers to hire low and promote.
