Jeff, would you consider doing an AMA?

Because everyone is anonymous it is generally difficult, if not impossible, to know who is who. But there are a few posters whose posts I often recognize and with whom I generally agree. So, I appreciate their posts. I don't know if that makes them favorites, exactly.

Do you check IP addresses to see if it's the same person posting different stuff that sounds similar? I mean out of curiosity, not due to an issue with the post.

Only if something strikes me as odd about a post. The IP addresses are visible to me and sometimes I recognize an address and remember it from another post.

Has your view of people/human nature changed at all because of DCUM? Do you think you've become more cynical or hopeful over time?

Not really. But I have learned a lot about different points of view.

Do you do much scripting to help manage posts and data? I think I’d build a crazy dashboard to monitor things.

I do a ton of scripting but I haven't created a dashboard. Instead I have scripts to help with moderation. Especially to catch unwanted posters such as spammers and asshats.

How long do you think you'll keep DCUM going? Do you have a plan for what to do with the site when you retire?

We will keep it going as long as it is worth the effort. I keep thinking that eventually people will lose interest in forums and it will die on its own. But hopefully not for a few more years. If it lasts long enough that I want to retire, I don't know what we will do.

Why do you only do what appears to be open programmatic advertising? Given the demos of the people coming here you would be able to get much higher CPMs than I think you do now.

What kind of traffic does the site do per day, like in number of posts and number of pageviews?

Are your children old enough to post? If so, do they? What do they think of this thing you've created?

(I showed my 15 year old DS some threads I thought might interest him, and his eyes bugged out of his head, like wow, moms write all this kind of stuff? He couldn't believe it.)

We don't have anyone to sell ads. I've tried making partnerships with others but it's never worked out.

Do you and your wife often discuss various threads? If so, what kinds of threads spark the most animated conversations?

Hi Jeff. Thank you for providing me so much entertainment that's free. Especially during work - a lot of my job involves being available so there's tons of down time.

My question: a while ago you posted about a lifestyle change where you were losing weight and changing how you ate. You were given a lot of feedback and encouragement and suggestions. I am wondering where you are with that. Did you take our suggestions? How are you doing now?

I think we get about 5-6 thousand posts a day. Normally over 350,000 page views a day.

Yes, but most of my closest friends never read it.

Or so they say...
