Daycare billing during COVID19 pandemic

NP. Uh, how do you know what school PP is referring to? From her post I thought we were at the same school, but from your post I'm no longer sure because what you're saying is not the case for May tuition at my school. Point being - go easy.

Pretty sure everyone is scouring their contracts right now. It’s the interpretation of vague provisions during an unprecedented time that is the problem.

In that case, it would be far more helpful to post the contract terms and ask for people’s opinions on what they mean than to post a vague, “Can they really charge me to hold my place?” I assume the people who do that have already looked at the contracts and found nothing helpful, so they’re looking for things outside the contract to get them out of paying.

I am an essential personnel daycare center and I hate to do this but my interpretation is that we are not allowed to collect any money from clients while we are enrolled in the emergency program. I could be wrong! But please try and show some grace to your daycare provider because the language is vague, it’s not clear at all and there is a lot of room for interpretation. I would say to check your contract even though I would say there isn’t a single contract out there that specifically addresses a pandemic and being forced to shut down by the government. Also before you go on threatening or reporting her as other people do please keep in mind that they care is have not been paid yet by the state and there’s a lot of anxiety about finances. Which is why I suggest you ask her for clarification on the regulations before you report her or do anything drastic.

To clear something up we are not allowed to take money from essential employees but the language is not clear on whether or not we can continue to bill nonessential families.

Yes. My daycare center is double dipping- has some essential kids but they are not all regular attendees. Then they are charging regular families full tuition despite having laid off some staff. It’s ridiculous. I can see charging a discounted tuition but they haven’t made the case why they need full. Our child is under 2 and we feel a bit trapped in terms of other options but I think some parents have just unenrolled their kids.
