You know your audience, OP: 1. A handful of trolls who have switched from rabid pro-Trump posts to rabid pro-opening posts. 2. A large number of people who scare easily and who have difficulty understanding novel opinions. And in this situation, the first people who say what they’re planning will by definition have novel opinions. Conclusion: Choose your words carefully, explain thoughtfully, do not generalize or make extreme or offensive statements. |
OP, if you telling us and not them, then that's why they're eye rolling you. They know you're easy to get to. Toughen up and grow a spine and they will stop messing with you. |
No we aren't. We are anonymous. OP needs to tell the actual people that she's speaking to. Let them then come on DCUM and eye roll someone else...at least it won't be her anymore. |
Nowhere did I say that keeping kids home would be unreasonable. I expect that my kids won't go to camp. But making that determination now is premature, absent a trigger date for payments (which OP didn't mention). As you yourself said, these are just projections. That many people think those projections will be accurate. There are decisions that need to made well in advance. Absent imminent reasons Op didn't mention, this is not one of them. You need to learn to read, or understand, more carefully. |
No one I know is even talking about this kind of thing. Places aren't starting to open back up. Its not like school has started - work is not asking anyone to come back. |
You do you. Hibernate as long as you want. Just don’t expect me to hibernate with you. |
Where are you running into all these people to have the same conversation with over and over and every one of them reacts aggressively and starts calling you names?
You live a strange life. |
Other parents just feel afraid that they made the wrong decision in sending their own kids back to daycare and camps. Parents today, especially mothers, take everyone else’s decisions as a threat if the decisions are contrary to their own. You see this all the time in small things and pre-corona. You’ve seen it here many times.
Just smile and follow your gut. Know their reaction and attacks come from their own fear. |
This. |
Nah, lots of people in certain circles start having group think and are easily influenced (see: reopen protestors.) Then, if you express an opinion outside the group, they circle.the wagons and work on you to confirm. It's worse here than many other places I have lived. I just don't say anything when they start to attack, criticize or make fun, or rolls eyes. My SIL from Fairfax does all these things nonstop. If you argue your point they will just keep escalating. Saying , well, we'll see or some other wishy-washy answer has been my best bet. |
OP, it is human nature. When someone is going to do something that deep down they know could go wrong, like a teenager with underaged drinking, they NEED to take people down with them. They need the "everyone was doing it" defense to live with themselves if things do go wrong. It is called peer pressure. |
Well our camp with JHU for August just cancelled, so clearly many people think this will be a problem for a while, and I would think JHU might have a clue. |
So, so true! |
Are daycares open? |
Some are. Some never closed. Georgia is reopening pretty much everything next week and some states never closed anything. |
