SAES has excellent bus service. Other schools may as well. You should visit them all and get the details about transportation options. |
OP here, I need to dig deeper into why he feels this way. He's always been a kid who had friends of both genders. So, it might just be that, but on the other hand, he does find in other single sex environments, like sports and scouts. Having said that, I always had the sense that Landon was more academically selective. Is that not true? |
No. Landon and St. Albans are the schools for jocks traditionally. |
| St. Andrews |
| Our Lady of Good Counsel. Incredible community, excellent academics. |
OP here, visiting is a little hard right now, but we'll definitely call and ask about transportation. |
| You could look at Avalon. It was way to religious for our taste and had a weird male vibe to me but I know several kids who go similar to what you are saying. |
| There are many great kids like your son at St. John's. |
| I second St. John's. Not sure if your son qualifies, but SJH has a great program for kids who need support: https://www.stjohnschs.org/academics/benilde-program# |
I also recommend St. Andrew's for your son. The transportation information is available on the web: https://www.saes.org/admission/transportation |
I'd look regardless because it checks so many of your other boxes, in terms of size, supports, etc. You can always talking to the Athletic Dept. during the process. Agree with St. Andrew's and SSFS too. |
| SJC |
| Landon. |

Which sports and how much support do you think he needs on the academics? I'd focus first on the latter, of course, but finding the right athletic environment can also help with getting the needed support on academics and social. No longer as familiar with the MoCo schools but your kid sounds like a large number of my classmates at Bullis many years ago. The ones who did best were those who had support from their coaches and teammates.
Good luck to you and your son. |
