You are correct, and I wasn't thinking about those people who may not be able to afford soccer next year. I was thinking more about the actual tryouts......and timing wise I wasn't sure there would be alot of movement. Taking the joblessness into account I do think you are right.

Using that train of thought, it’s the smaller clubs that will hurt. If fewer people return, big clubs can burden that. Smaller clubs won’t. Which could be even worse for smaller clubs, because that could mean a small club seeing fewer people return due to economics means players that due return to smaller club may no longer be that competitive and want to go to larger club to stay competitive.

Agree. Big clubs will survive. However, those clubs though will not be carrying 4-6+ teams at younger ages and probably 1-2 at older ages. its not worth it for most people. Also, even if people don't lose jobs immediately, things will be uncertainty for a long time to spend the amounts travel soccer demands.

Has anyone received any communication from their club about plans for next year?

Ordinarily in a month or so clubs would be asking parents to sign a contract to pay for next year. Will clubs be willing to wait until the fall for people to decide if their kid is coming back and if they are willing to pay?

They should and they should not collect fees--or fees should be greatly reduced.

It should be like the Olympics "postponed 2020 spring season' to be played sometime after the Fall---or whenever its safe again.

HA! I think they know what kind of response they would get if they asked anyone to sign a contract and get paid for next year.

I'm still paying for this season of nothing until June.

Exactly, other than all of the government subsidies for hosting the Olympics and commercial upside from tourism that allow sovereigns and the IOC to say "we'll just push it back a year." I think the reasons they are pushing it back further are the crowds. No tryouts for SAC. Keeping current teams, unless the coach by some divine power happened to tell players they were going to be moved up or down BEFORE the pandemic hit:


“We believe having a full tryout process would place undue stress on our players and families. For this reason, SAC has decided to have all players remain with their current team for the Fall 2020/Spring 2021 season. Players may be moved to a higher level team if a coach extends an offer and the player’s parents accept. Players may only be moved down to a lower level team if they have been given an evaluation by their current coach and have been previously notified of the situation. Supplemental tryouts will be held for one night for each age group to fill vacant spots.”

I don't know about Alexandria. They don't offer scholarships for kids in the middle (e.g. with parents who work middle class or lower middle class jobs). You either qualify for free and reduced lunch, or pay full. As a result, you have a lot of really wealthy kids, and some really poor kids, but not much in the middle to begin with.

No travel clubs do. Scholarships are for poor kids. If you are middle or lower middle, you scrape up the money or you do rec.
