Good schools and walking distance to metro?

I'm not as familiar with the schools south of Rt 50 in Arlington, but in N. Arlington the only school that definitively doesn't fit your criteria is Jamestown. All other schools (Taylor, Tuckahoe, Nottingham, McKinley, Ashlawn, Long Branch) have at least parts of their districts that are within 1/2-1mile of metro.

How far would you walk? We are in the middle of the City of Falls Church. There is 25-minutes walk (plus there is public transportation available) to the West FC, and East FC metro stations.

Don't forget Key, ATS, and Barrett - they are also within 1/2 to 1 mile of metro.

Check out the district map on the APS web site - there are also metro stops at Pentagon City and Crystal City but I don't know what schools are in those neighborhoods or what reputation they have.

Keep in mind that ats is admission by lottery only. Worth a try as my kids go there and I LOVE the school.

We are a 7 minute walk to the Metro and zoned for Long Branch. 22203.

If you have somewhat less money, people say great things about Patrick Henry and the zone is about a mile from Clarendon.

What about a public school with a few minute bus ride to metro?

22203 - Ashlawn district - we live 3 blocks from Ballston metro but not quite walking distance to the school. Really cannot go wrong with any of the Arlington schools!

Oakridge Elementary serves Pentagon City and Crystal City. Our daughter attends first grade there. We think it is a great school and a wonderful neighborhood.

OP -

When people say "North Arlington," sometimes they really do mean North of Lee Highway - which is what you took away. I generally avoid those people.

Good luck to you.

Lyon Village, Lyon Park, Ashton Heights, Virginia Square, Carlin Springs, parts of Arlington Forest... all N Arlington and all walkable to the metro.

Furthermore: Many people I know in South Arlington are quite happy with the educations their children are receiving and their children aren't in trailers behind the playground, either (see Tuckahoe)
