| I delivered there this weekend. One tip is to get the timing of your Covid test right if you are doing it before at the tent testing site (if your delivery is planned). They need the test to be no more than 72 hours old. If you get tested too early, you have to do it again in triage / L&D. Your partner will not get tested in L&D and will have to wear a mask the whole time. The staff all wear masks all day every day. Your partner gets to order meals from room service. The nursery is closed because of Covid. I found the quality of medical care to be as high as ever. |
PS I wore a mask until my test came back negative. I wore a very breathable one (the surgical fabric one) I found online at a shop called Suay. |
| Bump to ask about anyone’s recent experience with temperatures at GW. Do they blast the AC? Putting together the hospital bag and want to be prepared since we can’t leave or have anyone bring stuff. The last time I delivered there was April so this wasn’t an issue. Thanks! |
I was the last person who posted. I delivered ~2 weeks ago. You can have the temperature in your room adjusted (they call the building engineer). I only changed my clothes out of the hospital robe the second day I was there. I was comfortable in a tank top, leggings, and robe. Remember that postpartum sweating is a thing! |
Good to know, thanks! I'm actually thinking more about my partner's clothing than mine. |
| Random GW question. Are the lights in the rooms adjustable at all, or is only full fluorescent or off? Not sure why this is worrying me (delivering in about a month) but for some reason I just can’t imagine being comfortable in full bright lights while delivering. Or maybe this is one of those things where you think you’ll care about it until you’re in labor and then you just... don’t. |
| I don’t even remember the temperature or lights settings. You guys will be fine😊 |
| Bumping yet again to ask for any recommendations on what to bring/leave at home for GW deliveries currently - are pillows, towels, etc. from home allowed, for example? Anything you didn't bring but wish you had? Anything I shouldn't bother bringing? Thanks! |
I delivered there last year and in the giant L&D rooms where you actually labor there are 3 or 4 sets of lights - you can just put on up-lighting around the edge of the ceiling and turn everything else off. If you end up needing a C I think it's full flourescent or bust, although I'll admit I didn't ask them to dim the lights.

Thank you! Puts my mind at ease

Just gave birth there last week and the lights in my room were automatically nice and dimmed. It was very cozy and not harsh ligth. |
Just gave birth at GW. Personally I wouldn't bother with bringing pillows and towels as I had plenty of each unless you have really particular preferences and it would make a big difference with your comfort. Just pack it in your bag and you shouldn't have any trouble using your own stuff. Bring a colorful pillowcase so your pillow doesn't get mixed up with their pillows. |
| Just an FYI - I was in GW L&D triage last night and while I was fine, my DH was pretty cold with the AC. |
