here we go again... |

33% of Illinois Covid cases are AA. 13% of the Illinois population is black. 40% of the Michigan cases are AA. 13% of the Michigan population is black. I do take your point that "unhealthy" people are more likely to get it, and due to a variety of factors there is a higher rate of obesity, hypertension, asthma, etc among the black population. But race is a factor here too. |

AA's are more likely to go to church. Stay away from church. Even in South Korea, their largest outbreak was caused by the megachurch "cult". |

Both Michigan and Illinois have been locked down for around 2 weeks (IL a little longer, MI a little less long), and most churches have been closed for longer. |

And how long does it take to show symptoms again? |

Median length of symptom onset = 5.1 days ( https://annals.org/aim/fullarticle/2762808/incubation-period-coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19-from-publicly-reported ). 97% of cases show up in 11 days. |

Caucasians have fast food centric diets too. |

An AA ER doc in Brooklyn was interviewed on NPR yesterday--she said it's hitting her black/brown inner city patients hard.
I live in a low-density UMC AA neighborhood (lots of doctors, lawyers, etc.) and it's not here yet, AFAIK. But I'm sure it will hit other AA neighborhoods hard if there are a lot of folks who don't have the privilege to do social distancing, whether due to working blue-collar jobs, apartment living, etc. |

It'd probably be slightly better to measure the racial ratios for the immediate area rather than statewide. Detroit metro area, not all of MI. Chicago metro area, not all of Illinois. The rural parts of those states are overwhelmingly white and that skews things somewhat. If race is a factor then how does it explain all the deaths in Italy and Spain and France? |
| I assumed it was because the virus is spreading quickly in urban areas? |
| Interestingly, Ward 8, the poorest ward in DC, has the least cases of COVID19. |

Ding ding ding ding! We have a winner! |

There can be different risk factors in different areas of the world. |

NP. It is. Most people don’t have the luxury of being able to telework. Most poor people work service jobs. Most service jobs are deemed essential right now. Gas stations, grocery stores, warehouse workers, fast food workers... |
