My house is too small and needs a lot of work (over time) but I love my kitchen with breakfast nook and I love my screen porch. I’ve been trying to do work out there while my kids play in the yard. |
I might not have the fanciest house, but I have really good, comfortable seating in multiple rooms. Just when I can't take another second of working in one spot, I can switch to another. |
I appreciate that we built an au pair suite so our AP has really private space when she wants down time. |
People crap on townhomes, but I’m glad we have a 4 level townhouse in this.
Especially working from home. I can work peacefully down on the bottom level while the kids hang out on the roof level. Been super convenient, we’re able to have our own space. We almost went for a one-level rambler, and that would’ve been a disaster for this situation. Can’t imagine having any meetings with the screaming kids. |
I am grateful that we do not have an open floor plan. We are three adults and a high schooler in 1100 square feet, but you can still find a quiet place to work or feel "alone" if you need to. |
Grateful we got a new dishwasher last year, because I've never used one so much.
And as someone who was dragged kicking and screaming to suburbia, I could not be more grateful for the yard and cul-de-sac. |
We built an enclosed sunroom with a commercial fan above a guest bedroom many years ago when we expected my mom, a heavy smoker, to move in with us. She felt so guilty that we’d spent the $$ for her sake that she quit smoking entirely. She never used the room and we scarcely have since she passed away. Now that we are both working from home, it makes a fantastic office for DH.
Also grateful for a big yard. DD helps maintain an urban garden at her college and has planted all sorts of interesting flowers, herbs and vegetables since she returned. I love seeing all the baby plants grow! (While we are counting blessings—thank goodness this is happening in the spring and not the dead of winter!) |
Good call, op.
I like a fenced in yard for kids or a dog. I like being on a cul de sac—limits traffic. I also like neighborhoods that look relatively uniform—no crazy McMansions dwarfing their neighbors. |
I’m grateful for all the silly over-improvements we’ve done over the years. Our house isn’t very big but to me it’s beautiful and I love looking at all the things we’ve done to it. |
I was just saying to my DH the other day that I was so grateful for our comfortable home! We have a comfortable family room (with a new-ish couch) and a colonial with all the traditional rooms which gives us lots of separate spaces. And we don't have a yard with a lot of grassy space, but it's a beautiful wooded lot and sitting out on the back deck is lovely. We also have a recently renovated kitchen and master bath so, really, it's a lovely place to be all around. |
We have been in ours less than a year, but I have grown to love so many things, the working fireplace, large porch, great kitchen and how well it has held all of us at home in bright spaces, in a beautiful setting, inside and out. |
We’re grateful for our little house in the city: Large enough for us to have separate work spaces, yet great when we cozying up together, especially in front of a fire on a rainy day Oh and not so big that we’re unable to clean it ourselves! |
My 2,000 square foot finished basement |
A big dining room table, where I can set up my laptop for teleconferences. I don't normally work from home and don't have an office for it.
We were just getting ready to start a landscaping project, thinking the kids were old enough to not need the bare space. Now grateful for room for a lacrosse rebounder and soccer backstop! (House is not big, 1400 sq ft on a 1/4 acre lot, btw) |
We have lived in the same 2,000 SF house for almost 30 years now. It was big enough to raise a family, but now that the kids are on their own, it isn't so big that we feel we need to downsize. We have always loved our sunroom, as does anyone who visits our home. We have a 1/2 acre level lot within walking distance to schools, parks and shopping. |
