What is the point of this? Are you all in your teens?

NP. What do you mean? I did one last night with friends I haven't seen in forever and it was so much fun. And we're all late 30's/early 40's.

You haven’t felt like chatting with friends since your teens? Weird!

As an adult I can have a conversation with other adults that doesn’t require video.

I really like this idea - thank you!

OP

As a guy I would think this is the dumbest thing ever. It’s one birthday. He will be fine with something low key just with you.

You say that, but my DH suggested a Zoom happy hour with his guys from college. Once they all got on the call they ask realized hope much they needed the support of seeing each other, and hearing that they all were dealing with similar shit, esp the frustration of their parents not taking this seriously enough, etc.

Don't let the macho prevent you from something you might really enjoy (and need. )

I suggested Zoom because my friends and I used it last week and it was much fun. We had wine and tons of laughs. We’re 40+, btw. Clearly it’s not for everyone and if you’re too much of a stick in the mud to think it’s something only for teens then carry on with your crocheting through the quarantine. More social types enjoy being social and connecting with others no matter the circumstances.

Hope your husband enjoys it!

My husband is having a Zoom birthday party this weekend, it'll be great fun. Please disregard the anti-social people!

Do you have any suggestions for what made it successful? I've had some really bad group zoom calls lately, people talking over reach other then silence.. But I'd love to make this work.

I just did my husband’s quarantine bday this week - he would have hated the zoom idea, but if your DH would like it, I think it would be nice.

We have a 10 month old, so baby and I made a card. Food is usually a big birthday thing for us. So I got some beer delivered, and got a special lunch and dinner he’d like. And we watched Bob’s Burgers - because working from home all day while also taking care of a baby is exhausting. Oh, and I got his favorite dessert - a frozen version because I didn’t have the ingredients or time to make one, but if you can do a homemade favorite that would be much better!
