| I haven't been on the main drags of late. Are they all wandering? Libraries are closed.. have night shelters opted to stay open by day? |
The number of panhandlers at intersections seems to have increased in the last week. |
| Whatever happen in DC to our homeless and transient residents will be a picnic compared to Baltimore. |
What do you mean? |
| The idea that you can quarantine poor people is just silly. Their living situations - if not homeless - are more crowded and fluid. And now we’ve destroyed their livelihoods and closed schools which will cause further poverty and violence but do absolutely nothing to curb the epidemic. We would be much better off as a society in the big picture if we let those who CAN quarantine (like myself) quarantine while not destroying the livelihoods of the poor. |
Obviously! We are not allowing them to work thereby forcing more families into poverty and homelessness. Who do you think busses tables? Billionaires? |
Have you been there lately? A dear friend of mine is an RN in Baltimore and this is their biggest concern. An epidemic sweeping through the homeless, transient and/or addicted residents will overwhelm the system, even if no one else were to require hospitalization. |
But that makes Susie in McLean feel scared. Susie has a safety net. Why doesn’t everyone else? |
Well, Susie’s McMansion is about to get looted because of these profoundly stupid policies. |
Right. And what do you think will happen when there is no ventilator for your mom because they are treating the street addict instead? That’s when the social sh#% will truly hit the fan. |
She's been logging all those hours on the Peloton. Maybe she can get on a real bike and get away. |
I'd be the first to say, I'd be furious. Also, because this is preventable with planning now (like so much of this crisis has been). Our elected leaders need to start war gaming this and taking all appropriate measures. |

Anyone know if the burgeoning Tent City at the entrance of unique on Gallows Road is still functioning? I watched this encampment spring up over the course of several weeks; from the petite, AA female pushing a cart, to her cart being covered with a tarp, to a tent, to two large tents.

Based on my observations in Nova lately, Susie now has a couple of guns if she didn't a month ago |
| She may not be the only one. There are some MPD postings on local list servs that suggest a very recent spike in armed robberies in Upper NW. The criminals think that the police are stretched, know that DC is not jailing all but the most violent arrestees, and see that people are out on quiet streets alone and not in social groups and may be distracted. Best of all, it’s not considered unusual to wear a face mask. Thugs like that who prey on anxious people during a pandemic should be dealt with extremely harshly. |
