Both parents teleworking. My middle school kid and I agreed she could set her own schedule, with a bit of framework.
Every day she needs to do: 1. Something mental (homework, instrument, read a challenging book); 2. Something physical (walk around the block, wii fit, yoga); 3. Something relaxing (non-electronic, so maybe an adult coloring book or a craft, reading for fun, baking); 4. Something productive (cleaning, cooking dinner, organizing closet). As long as she’s making good progress on all those, a bit of TV or video games in between are fine. As are texting or FaceTiming with friends. Let’s see how long this lovely balance lasts... |
This is actually a really good plan. Have some structure, but don’t be too rigid. This is going to likely last beyond the 2 week mark and you want something that is relatively sustainable. Also keep in mind this is going to be an emotional roller coaster for you and your kids. Please be gentle with each other. |
Great structure. Thanks for it. I may add some time frame.... my kids (and me!!) can get distracted and begin to focus on dumb to phone. |
