My daughter attended Thomson for 1st and 2d grades. She would have returned for 3d except that we are spending the year out of the country. If we return for 4th grade I would happily re-enroll her. I have read the posts with interest, particularly the comments and criticism of the principal. Dr. Camp has a low key personality, but most parents will tell you that she is one of Thomson's major assets. The students love her. Unlike in many other schools where the principal is rarely accessible, Dr. Camp knows every student by name, knows their strengths and weaknesses, and takes a personal interest in their progress. This made an appreciable impact on my daughter. Re the teachers, just as in any school the quality varies, but overall I was pleased with the teachers. My daughter was more than on course when she joined the third grade. The school is disciplined, rowdy behavior is not tolerated. Of course it is an elementary school, filled with children, so noise is always a factor. Finally, you should keep in mind when looking at the test scores that the school has a large immigrant population, whose first language is not English. You will never please everyone, but Thomson is a solid elementary school. |
