Cane on to suggest Woodend (the Audubon Naturalist Society’s mansion and sanctuary in Kensington, MD). |
| Lots of wineries are pretty and budget friendly. |
|
Strathmore is one option.
The National Arboretum lets you host weddings there. It would depend on the time of year. You'd need good weather. |

You can have two of the following:
Nice Not too expensive Not in bumf*ck |
| It's not that close to the city but Savoir Faire catering in Loudoun does a really nice job. They work with a lot of the wineries out in western Loudoun. |
We got married there 11 years ago! Great venue. Here are my tips: buy your own alcohol, if you have drinkers! This is actually how we ended up in Maryland, because their liquor laws permit this (DC and VA do not, which means your catering bill is exponentially higher, if you want to provide a good amount of booze). We needed far fewer flowers for our fall wedding because the foliage outside was gorgeous (we were married in one of the groves). We got married on a Friday night, which was much cheaper (though, yes, I get that it was less convenient for guests). |
Please know that I will get drunk and dance at your wedding regardless of the time of day. |
Strathmore is very attractive, and their caterer is great. Don’t know if things have changed, but 13 years ago, their prices were thousands higher than for small venues and historic hotels in DC. |
Woodend is expensive. |

The Lodge at Seneca Creek holds 100. We used a good but reasonable caterer there- Hemibry. http://www.hemibry.com/
|
PP again. I wanted to add that the Lodge includes the tables and chairs and Hemibry includes the linens and plates, glasses, etc. You can buy your own alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks. |
I can’t say anything about venues, but confirming Hemibry’s food is fantastic! |
