| Both are great schools. I have friends in both schools and they are all very happy. You should go with the gut feeling, maybe. WES has a lot of Bethesda/Chevy Chase crowd, whereas Lowell has a lot of NE and NW DC people due to the locations. |
This. |
| This is my family's ninth year at Lowell, and we really love it. Each of our three kids have been known, valued and supported. They love school, and they continue to try new things. The social emotional learning that is implemented throughout all the divisions of the school is one of my favorite things. Like previous posters, I believe in the benefits of a k-8 school. |
DP. Agreed. This anecdotes don’t mean much because every situation is unique. |
| We at at Lowell and are very happy; it has been an excellent fit for our child. I hope you take advantage of the welcome events and get to know the communities a bit in the coming weeks. Talking with other families at the schools was very helpful for us. Congratulations and good luck making the best decision for your family. |
| Check out both Accepted Family events! |
| Long time Lowell family. Great fit for our family, but know it is not for all. Unfortunately only know WES by reputation but under the impression it’s a very different educational model and that the schools are unlikely to appeal to the same constituencies. Only way to know is to visit, visit again, talk in person to families, and trust your gut. Choosing a school is an exciting time - enjoy the journey! |

I know nothing about WES.
But we are in our third year at Lowell, and I wanted to share that we have been *extremely* impressed by our new Head of School. I’ve already seen improvements around communications. Every time I’ve heard Donna speak, I’ve grown more confident in her and that this is the place we want to be long term. She’s so smart and thoughtful. I admittedly was nervous when, right after we started there, we learned the HoS was retiring. But I’m thrilled. I can’t wait to see how things grow under Donna. |
Interesting to hear that. My daughter was made fun of on the visit day (last admissions cycle) with the teacher stood next to her. The teacher did nothing. I know it was only 5 year olds but still disappointing. We went elsewhere. |
