If you do those consider adding Drexel, Villanova, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore. On return journey you could go to the middle of the state and look at Franklin and Marshall, Dickinson and Gettysburg or go up the NE Extension and see Lehigh and Lafayette.

Biology is a very flexible major. You will find excellent departments at a wide range of colleges, large, small, public, private.

Drexel is of course a very easy add to a Penn visit since it's literally next door. Even if you can't do the full official tour you can at least do a walk around. Nice neighborhood these days. It was a much rougher place when I was growing up in Philly.

I believe Haverford does not have you preschedule tours, so you can fit it in as possible. It's close enough that you can go back on a half day or maybe a weekend if they do tours then. We did an afternoon tour at Swat, then morning at Haverford.

For some schools enroute to tours, we stopped and walked/drove around campus to get a quick feel.

Too low for CMU. They want an almost perfect SAT.
But might get a little merit money at PITT.

Lots of schools in the Philly area that you can check out at the same time. Even if the school is a reach or different than what your kid is interested in, it's easy enough to drive over to campus and take a look around on your own. You might be surprised.

We went to the area to tour Villanova but ended up checking out Swarthmore and UPenn on a whim. Pleasantly surprised by both.

1500 is closer to the mark. Still absurdly high but a good distance from perfect.

It is in the boonies. No other colleges to look at. That is a one day tour separate from Spring Break.

My daughter's friend got in with a 1420. Stop saying what is too low and what is not.

With some of the Ivy League schools that don't track interest, I've just shown up and joined a tour group as soon as it left the admissions office. The tour guide is not going to tell you to shoo, especially if you have a high schooler with you.

+1 St. Mary's is very strong for biology about 90 minutes from DC).

If you're looking at other small LACs strong in biology, you could try Juniata (just over 3 hours away but very remote) and Franklin & Marshall (about 2 hours) in PA.

I'm laughing out loud OP. Most kids would kill for those SAT scores.

Sure, but DD wants to go to vet school so we are trying to keep undergraduate costs low cause grad school costs are high.

Honestly with her stats she is medium level for folks around this area. Look at the entry scores to get into UMD.
Not that I don't think she is smart cause she is...but she has to also be practical. Some folks in life will be better and some less. But everyone will be around you. Make good decisions.

I'd say don't worry too much about visiting too many schools until acceptance and $merit$ offers come in, especially if you're looking at the lowest price possible.

SAT scores are only average if you in RMIB or Blair SMCs. Even excellent for NCS, Sidwell etc. They are not AVERAGE even for this area.
