Yes, silver spring = Waltham. Burlington also a possibility. Arlington used to be but has gotten pricey bc it’s close in. I would focus on where you are working and look at communities within 10 miles and see what fits price wise.

Not really. Waltham is far more affordable than Silver Spring.

I love Arlington.

Arlington is amazing, but you will pay through the nose. It used to be a working-class town next to Cambridge maybe 20 or so years ago--but it's now Bethesda Lite. I don't mean that as a knock. The town has just become more developed, new young families moving in, more investment in the schools, etc.

I would say Waltham or Watertown is similar to Silver Spring. Both are still (relatively) affordable compared to similarly close-in towns/cities.

Watertown is more like Silver Spring. Arlington is nowhere near Bethesda Lite.

If you have kids, maybe consider Watertown with a private school.
