Question for women about sending flowers

This. Haven't you seen all the memes about the big flower places? I always go local.

I have been telling my husband for years that I prefer that he support a neighborhood business instead of a national chain, but he never listens to me. I’ve gotten boxed flowers that were a complete PITA because it was a ton of work to free them from the packaging and I felt bad about the environmental impact of the packaging. After all that effort, they didn’t look professionally arranged. I’ve received half-dead flowers. One Valentines Day, my bouquet was never delivered. This year, the local florist somehow fulfilled the order for the national online florist twice. I got similar arrangements delivered in the morning and afternoon and one arrangement looked much nicer than the other. I just want a pretty bouquet in a vase from our neighborhood place. In fact, I would LOVE it if DH dropped off a vase for them to use so we’re reusing the same one each time.

+1

I don’t want to arrange my own flowers. It’s supposed to be a gift.

But places like FTD, even though a national website, *ARE* the network that most local florists are under. So how is ordering directly from the local florist as opposed to from FTD supposed to be any different? Is there something about the picture on the FTD website that the local florist just cannot seem to understand?

I don’t even like getting flowers. They are so expensive and she so fast. Massive waste of money, and they take zero effort to order.

It sounds like you have good intentions, OP.

I love arranging flowers but if you send me flowers then I want them in a vase with water and ready for display. Especially if they are arriving at my work!

FWIW if I want flowers to arrange then I will buy them myself on a day when I know I have time to spend arranging them, when I know what vase I'm using, when I know where I will put the finished arrangement, etc. Frankly, I don't think many people like going to that level of effort and probably don't even have all the equipment, even a vase, so it seems a little presumptuous to send flowers that aren't arranged in a vase.

I also agree with a PP that I like plants!

Have you tried urban stems?

Actually ime you're -much- better off going with FTD if you want to avoid the above. With FTD you have recourse. With local you never know what you're going to get.

I don’t really care either way. Flowers are flowers.

Op, are you sending flowers to a woman you are dating? I have an alternative idea. Costco has great quality roses - like 24 stems for $20, many different colors. Buy the roses, trim the stems, arrange them in a vase (easy), and hand deliver on your next date. She will love them, and you will have a great night! There’s no need to tell her they are from Costco.

I don't care either way, someone was thoughtful enough to send me flowers. I appreciate it.

Just not my experience. Local places are more likely to care about online reviews and customer service.

Find a local florist. Ftd sucks. For the same amount of money you get wayyyyy better flowers from the local florist. Ftd is just a middle man.

You are never better off with ftd.

I like a case because it's less work for me. Believe it or not, my preference would be hand delivered by my husband because I know how valuable his time is. If he didn't outsource delivery it would mean even more to me.

Isn't there an option where you pay a little more for the supreme or deluxe version which means it more closely resembles the picture?
