5th Grade Sex Ed

It is definitely very conservative OP.
What you have to watch for is the 6th and 7th grade health class. They discuss sex trafficking and forced heroin use.
So depressing and shocking.

At our ES, the person teaching health said she had students submit questions about things they were curious about and she intended to answer the questions frankly. She sent the list of questions home and told parents they could opt-out. The questions were VERY explicit.

That should tell parents that they need to be having conversations with their kids. It’s not teachers or schools, its just kids being curious based on growing up and being exposed to life outside the home, including all the media.

Really? You think they should talk about anal and oral sex to 10 year olds? I've talked about sex with my children, but that seems like way too much to me at that age!

That is not what they talk about. There is nothing graphic about these discussions. It’s done very age appropriate and tactfully dine and kids are amongst their peers. Parents are making too big of a deal about this.

I applaud this teacher.

Actually it definitely doesnt. There are VERY strict rules to administering family life lessons. It is all scripted and no one is permitted to go off script. If students ask questions not covered, they are told to ask their parents or guardians. Please educate yourself before misinforming others.

5th grade family life does not cover sex at all. It’s about puberty. Our kids’ teachers said if kids ask a question about sex or where babies come from the teachers have to tell them it’s a discussion to have at home with a parent.

Misinformation is our weapon! Please don't mess with our modus operandi.

I am SO glad they are covering these things. I have repeatedly tried to talk to my 5th grader about this stuff, got books from the library… and I’m getting a hard pass at every try. Really glad they’ll be forced to listen at school.

Why are you getting a hard pass??

Here's the current link for information about the Grade 5 Family Life and Human Sexuality unit:
https://www2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/health/elementary/grade5

And the detailed document MCPS Scope and Sequence: Health Education Middle School has the out of context information a PP posted earlier.

A lot of the curriculum in middle school is mainly correct terminology and basic descriptions for various Family Life and Human Sexuality topics. While some may think certain topics are inappropriate for middle school students, I guarantee you that students are hearing all sorts of things from their peers, including slang and wild inaccuracies about sexuality topics. The curriculum is intended to provide accurate information about topics that are definitely being discussed by middle school students.

Of course you should! Once they hit middle school that is all you will hear about
