She could easily be a rescue that after they rehabbed her she still couldn't survive on her own in the wild. |
Yep, we rode dolphins during our honeymoon over a decade ago--when I got back and mentioned to a coworker, she told me how bad this is for the dolphins. I wouldn't do it now. |
|
I am completely anti any 'swim with the dolphins' or 'ride the elephant' type exploitive tourist thing however your info is wrong. Animals that bring in $$ are treated pretty terribly in most parts of the world.
|
Maybe they rescued? Maybe they changed the way they do business with a conservation approach? Point is: I didn’t ride a dolphin; I learned about them, paid to support the education and conservation effort, and got to be very close (standing in chest deep water), stroke the dolphin, etc. |
| Riding dolphins > Eating dolphins |
| All of the dolphins at Atlantis were orphaned/homeless from Hurricane Katrina. They have an enormous beautiful lagoon. |
| I am not going to watch the videos, but I agree that interacting with, riding, doing whatever with dolphins is inhumane. I would never do it. |
Yes, that is true. However, it is fact that these harvesters create many orphans that are passed off to these facilities and marine parks. |
????? How can they be orphaned when they live in water? |
https://www.atlantisbahamas.com/things-to-do/dolphin-cay "Dolphin Cay is one of the largest and most sophisticated marine-mammal habitats in the world. Our first residents were 17 stranded dolphins and 10 sea lions whose home in Gulfport, Mississippi was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Dolphin Cay is also the Caribbean’s premier marine animal rehabilitation facility." |
| This is not true of all dolphin swim places. Come on. |
|
There are ways of "using" wild animals and domesticated animals in ways that promote conservation efforts without traumatizing them. I am all for that, since apparently humans cannot relate well to abstract causes (see the decades of research on climate change before it developed into a global awareness). The Chinese loans of giant pandas around the world and their artificial insemination efforts is the prime example of a successful program. There are organizations that exploit animals for profit, mostly but not limited to poorer countries (animals in shows, or small zoos). Avoid those. Elsewhere, be sure to ask the right questions, and enjoy the animals! |
This was not included in the OP. Just a link, which I was NOT going to watch did not indicate the source. |
I am OP. The link was to Instagram page of Paul Nicklen, world-renowned wildlife photographer. It had description of dolphin hunts and you could choose whether to watch it or not. All the source info from The Dolphin Project was listed in his description. You didn’t even read it. |
OP, are you Paul whatshisnuts? Is there a reason that all 4-5 times you responded, you used his name with the exact same specific descriptor? You a fangirl? Or just a weirdo? |
