I am in Virginia. Maybe they don't allow it in Maryland? You basically consult with a nurse practitioner, tell them the products you have used in the past, and what your issues are. Then they compound a formula. Mine (age 45) has tretinoin .04%, azelaic acid 7%, and Climdamycin 1%. my 15 year old's has Zinc Pyrithione 0.25% , Clindamycin 1%, and Niacinamide 4%. It has been a game changer for me for hormonal acne. My son--well, his skin is better, but he is noncompliant with general hygeine so you can only get so far. |
Could you share this pharmacy you used. My insurance is not covering and would be $650 for 30 day supply. |
Our derm uses Loudoun Family Pharmacy. They specialize in derm meds and are great at using coupons and other means to get the price down. |

The problem with treating acne is that it is all about trial and error (trust me, we have been going through this for years with my teen). And even if something works, it might stop working after a few months or a year.
DS's skin is currently pretty good. When is started getting bad again towards the beginning of summer, we decided to take a different approach. the current regime: 1 acnetame/day Alternate days of : 1. benzoid 2. Ordinary products - niacaminide, followed by hyaluronic acid followed by azelaic acid It took about 6 weeks for the skin to clear. He still gets break outs, but it's not as extensive or frequent and they clear faster - but the biggest difference is the numerous small bumps and redness. |
Sorry, I meant to say that the bumps and redness have cleared |
Yeah ours also recommended antibiotics and so far so good |
