If someone from that elementary leaves HB, the next kid from that elementary pool gets to go. That's how they maintain the distribution of kids from around Arlington, at least for 6th grade. And there is hardly any movement in 7th and 8th.

How many HB kids leave between 8th and 9th? Do some of the kids who went to HB for MS decide to go somewhere else for HS?

I read somewhere (WaPo?) that 85% of the kids who enter in 6th go on to graduate. I can’t find the article now though...

Hmm that's interesting but I'm specifically wondering how many kids leave after 8th and before 9th? My kid is on the waitlist for 9th. I know how many spots her middle school has and I'm wondering if any more open up due to kids leaving. It seems logical to me that some kids may leave at the natural break between 8th and 9th (like maybe go to to IB or Tech?) but this is just a guess and perhaps wishful thinking.

I looked at the numbers for 8th graders in June 2019 and then 9th graders in September 2019, and it went up from 85 to 135. The weird thing is only 26 seats were offered from the lottery so I don't know where those other 24 students came from. It doesn't really answer your question, but maybe some of those extra 24 students came off the waitlist??

Sorry, I'm not seeing the 85 and 135 numbers on this link. Can you point me in the right direction?

The high school classes are larger than the middle school classes, so there are more slots.

Yes I know but there are 26 slots offered for HS, so how is the class moving from 85 to 135? And where did the PP get those 85 and 135 numbers from anyways?
