I don't understand why the administrators that didn't call the police, disturbed the crime scene, questioned and encouraged witnesses to think of the football program etc are not being arrested for obstruction of justice. I thought it was illegal to try to cover up a crime or mess up the investigation of one even if you were not the direct person who committed it.

Every single time there’s a sexual assault allegations in Montgomery County Public schools the principal does their own investigation which is against the rules and compromises the case. Every single time. It’s a huge problem that Montgomery County police have discussed with Montgomery county schools but the principles are never held accountable for compromising the case.

So MCPS has been warned not to obstruct investigations in the past yet they continue to do it. Why is the Montgomery County DA not doing anything about this?

This. At this point it is beyond a school issue. Parents need to be protesting en masse to the State’s Attorney, the Governor, the state law board etc.

I don’t understand why parents aren’t more outraged? I think MCPS does such a good job of shutting down any dissent and parents are just worn out and discouraged maybe. We saw how parents were treated during the Town Hall ‘meetings’ for the Rockville rape incident, during the Richard Montgomery incident, this Damascus rape case. Parent concerns are dismissed and ignored consistently and parents feel helpless.

I think most people don’t know what to do to escalate their concerns. They don’t know the proper channels (I certainly don’t). And frankly, most people are followers. If it hasn’t directly impacted them, they aren’t going to get involved. A grass roots campaign that clearly outlines what parents should do would probably be really helpful. And I think the media would be all over this which could help get the word out.

It's because there isn't enough media attention and I guarantee that most families do not know about it. If it was at the forefront of local news, many other families would come out to connect the dots and describe similar events.

So we need to get a WaPo reporter on the case.

is there a way to read the filing? I tried to search the court cases in MoCo but couldn’t find it. If someone can find it, pls post link or directions.

Maybe?

Plus, parents just don't have the time or energy. It's really hard to take on a large school system like MCPS. MCPS is just TOO BIG, and it's too hard to implement changes.

Having an organized approach would help with the time and energy constraint. Similar to how orgs like Planned Parenthood lay out activism steps and templates to use. That is what I think would help parents be more vocal. And the media.

And I agree with MCPS size. But at this point no one should be expecting and advocating for change directly with MCPS. All should be done at a state level and through legal avenues.

I feel the same. MCPS leadership is rarely held accountable. We see this over and over.

That’s on us, I’m afraid. All of the current school board members, even the newer ones, embody the same way of thinking, and they made no secret of it.

It will be interesting to see if any of the candidates running in the April primary will highlight this as a campaign issue.

Teachers want the candidate that will eat out the most and be clueless as to curriculum.

I think it's this too. When the talk of redistricting started, people rushed to complain to their County Council member. However, MCPS BOE is independent and the Council has no control over them other than to approve or deny their budget.
