Babysitter and dinner dishes

Why aren’t your kids cleaning up?

Now that that’s established, simply communicate what you want. When she comes next time, say, “Please put the dishes in the dishwasher and the food in the fridge after dinner. The kids can help.”

We make dinner and leave it on the table for the kids and babysitter. We have one babysitter who always does the dishes (loafs the dishwasher, puts leftovers in rubber ware in the fridge, wipes down table) and tidies up and another who doesn’t do either. We get to come home from date night and do a half hour of cleaning up. We pay really well. Feels ridiculous that she puts the kids to bed and then sits in a messy room watching tv for hours. And it’s so annoying to come home to. Both babysitters are adults. Are my expectations out of whack?

Half an hour for you both to clean up? I doubt it. I also doubt you pay “really well”.

How old are the kids, OP?

How do you even know she likes/wants to eat what you're eating? If someone said this to me, I'd reply, "actually, I'll eat beforehand so no need to leave out the food and dishes."

Leaving a meal for kids and sitter is weird? I would expect a sitter to at least load the dishes in the dishwasher with help from the kids. JFC this is pretty basic.

It's super weird that OP and spouse leave dirty dinner dishes for the sitter to load. She's not your maid, ffs.

Why isn’t op expecting her own kids to pick up after themselves?
Oh wait, they’ll be on-the-job slops just like the sitter!

Dude. They are four.

Why assume the worst in people?

You are the worst.

When someone babysitter for me I expect them to do what I would do if home. That includes taking care of kids and cleaning up.

At four, they ABSOLUTELY should be helping with the clean up. Why not?

Then you need to pay a lot more. Babysitters are not your maid. Next, you will want them to clean your house.
