yes, tons of places to study CS, but name a few that are the quality of UVA for CS and all around, and for that reasonable price (in state).

W and M more money
VT -- CS is only in engineering school, so sort of limiting, and maybe as hard to get into as UVA.
GMU is very good, but very very close to home.

OP here, our concern with taking AP English is that this would be the 5th AP (or post AP) class in a year. 4th looks doable, but 5 seemed like quite a bit. Maybe that's what it takes for UVA, W&M, etc.?

What are the other ones? Hard to say (see posts above) in a vacuum.

We agreed that 4 was the limit per year for my son. AP Eng didn't happen. He is in engineering school now.

11th: APUSH, AP CALC BC, AP "Science"TBD, Adv Comp Sci AB (post AP)
12th: AP US Gov, MatrIx algebra/multivariable calc (post AP), AP Science TBD, AP Econ (personal finance reqirement)

Doesnt include possibilty of AP stats or AP Spanish. Damn selective colleges!

Drop one science and add AP Lang or Lit. Already clear that sci/math are their thing. Need to show they can write.

My Senior soon to be comp sci major took AP Lang and Honors English 12. She took AP Comp Gov which she thought would be much more interesting to her and also include lots of writing. Several acceptances so far..waiting on a few ivies.

Or is there another way to fulfill personal finance (even summer?) and swap for AP Lang?

You’ll need to check VirtualVa or VFairfax for the summer offerings

This. Always check with high school college counselor before making any decisions.

Congratulations!

He could do summer economics and personal finance instead of AP econ.

I’m sorry OP. Your kid sounds like they have worked very hard. UVA isn’t the only good option, and where you attend to college matters less than what you do there.

OP here. Thank you for your sympathy, but I'm not actually the person that posted that UVA comment. All is good. We're still in the AP class decision mode.

High demand for CS majors. Many options out there.
