Contact Dr. Kraskin in DC. He's in charge of the DC Regulatory body for Developmental Optometrists. His evaluations are amazing. He has research you can read. He does his own vision therapy. He's not expensive and offers a variety of treatment schedules and prices. Developmental Optometrists are not "quacks". Ophthalmologists are medical doctors and likely not real happy that there are other vision experts out there. I'm an OT and work OD's all the time, plus my daughter has been to one who diagnosed issues after her concussion. Dr. Kraskin will often recommend an intensive period of OT prior to vision therapy for a variety of reasons, and will then determine next steps. Insurance coverage depends on the issue.

And patching is considered "old school" for the most part, and somewhat depending on the condition nowadays, (as is surgery) but is common as a treatment recommended by ophthalmologists.
