Pretty safe to say that all nonprofessional tournaments are meaningless to everybody other than the participants. Do you know or care who won the women or men’s National Championships this year? If so, why? Do you think those are really valuable or meaningful to anybody else? That doesn’t mean the participants should not enjoy it or think it is worthwhile to themselves. I love the petty hierarchies people try to establish based on their children’s (or, more accurately, their children’s’ teams’) accomplishments on a pitch. Priceless. Yes, bow down to the kids and parents who don’t play in these state cups. Maybe your kids will win a scholarship to a completely mediocre college after investing more than the cost of tuition in ECNL or DA travel.

The point is that US Clubs Soccer is creating another money grab. There are three main leagues: DA, ECNL and US Youth Soccer. VPL/NPL is an inferior league and fake national title with zero credibility. It like Supr Y. It is worthless.

Except that it's fun for the kids, but why should that be taken into consideration. Someone already posted this but I'll repost the question....what in life isn't a money grab? What?

Because you’re paying more money to play what is essentially a league tournament. You’re not playing against any new teams, just the same teams in your current league.

They are soccer games to the kids and are no more special or memorable than any other game they ever play. Stop acting like these tournaments are some spiritual, life defining experience that the kids will remember for the rest of their lives.

How much does it cost each team to enter?

I have a kid in VPL so I can tell you that at the younger ages it seems like a big deal to the kids because it is called the "State Cup" and so when you win or progress to the finals the kids think they are the best in the state. However, after a few years kids and parents realize that there are more than one State Cup so kids think of it as just another tournament. My kids is now in one of the oldest age brackets so the teams they are competing against aren't even the top teams from most clubs since the Richmond teams, PWSI, VSA have formed an ECNL team and GFR and FCV have DA teams but they still feel like its equivalent to winning a tournament. They have moved games around though which have resulted in fewer teams participating so hopefully in future years they won't be so spread out.

According to website 200$ or 275$ depending if you’re in VPSL or not.

The 2008 girls group only has 4 teams participating. How can you call this state cup? It isn't even equal to a tournament. 2 teams play 1 game and the other 2 play a second one. Are 2 teams going to claim to be semi-finalists, one a finalist and the other a State Cup Champion?

Yep. The teams that lose the semis can always say that when they were 11, they lost in the semi finals of the state cup!

Why are 2008 Richmond Strikers not playing? They won last year?

Why play a league tournament when you are already dominant in the league?
