What do you do on a kid sick day?

I'm home with a sick first grader today, but she feels a lot better after taking medicine, so we played board games this morning, she did some coloring/crafting while I did the dishes and made lunch, I did some laundry, she helped me fold it, she rested/napped, we read some books, now we're watching tv and being lazy.

A kid sick at home with no parent with them is the saddest thing.

I work from home most days, but that’s not an alternative to childcare so even with that option when my kids are sick and I’m the parent home I’m not working (unless they’re napping).

Last spring my husband was overseas and both kids were vomiting. I joined Instacart to get grocery delivery and made some meals but mostly just tried to rest and prep in case I got sick too. Luckily I didn’t.

When my kid is sick, she wants to rest. Sometimes I sit next to her and read, since she likes to snuggle, especially when ill, but otherwise I prep dinner, maybe do a load of laundry or pick up the house, and relax. Why feel guilty?

DS was home with the flu for 4 days last week. We watched TV together, I read to him when he wanted me to, did laundry, cleaned a bit, and worked out on the Peloton. Then I went to work from 3-11 when DH came home.

High fever and sleepyness sounds like the flu could be a possibility. Have you had her tested at Drs? I would make sure she stays hydrated and that if you catch it you don’t go back to work and expose everyone there.
