Vet or wait it out?

Don’t be dramatic. Pets often swallow things they shouldn’t with no expensive consequence apart from discomfort.
OP should call her vet and go from there.

DP. By your quote, yes, this OFTEN has no expensive consequences. But SOMETIMES your dog dies. Unfortunately I know this from firsthand experience. There was nothing overly dramatic about the prior post.

If you had just seen him eat it and he weren't acting sick, I'd say skip the vet and wait for it to come out the other end. But the licking his lips thing makes me think he's eaten something poisonous. I'd call and ask what they could do at this point either way.

I’m asking because when I’m not sure if my child needs to be seen by her pediatrician, I call and get advice from a nurse. Is that something you can do with veterinarian offices?

Yes, it is.

Update: vet saw dog and was not concerned. Gave him an anti nausea shot. Tomorrow morning he will be 48 hours vomit free which is great and I am going to cook some rice for him to eat. Will continue to monitor the situation. Thanks all!
