Do I buy a peloton?

I ran for years and nothing has gotten me in better shape. Perhaps the reason is that it is available 24 -7. I do something every day.

I suppose if you are extremely motivated and have a fitness base you can make it work with another type of stationary bike but I feel only those who know what a hard workout is can do it without the instant feedback and metrics.

It is expensive but if you use it then it pays for itself with 1-2 yrs. I’m using the math of about 2400 so 100$ month for 2 yrs and then just 39$ fee. Really hard to find a decent gym or program for 39$ a month in DC.

I’ve done the cheap, cheap gyms and more expensive...and on my own as a runner. Peloton just has something and it works ( for me.)

Same here. I think its a great option for someone who is really into fitness but who needs a way to get a great workout from home. Think working moms who prioritize working out, but who don't have time to go to gyms or boutique fitness studios. I have a Peloton bike and use it or other Peloton content between 4-6x per week. I was very into indoor cycling and working out in general before I bought it, so it makes sense that I get a lot of use out of it. That being said, I know several people who have one, that barely use it. Most of these people were not into working out to begin with, and it didn't turn out to be a magical solution for them. If you are into working out, and specifically if you are really into indoor cycling, its a great piece of equipment and well worth the money. If not, don't be surprised if it turns into a very expensive clothes hanger.

They do a 30 day trial with full money back guarantee including the delivery fee, so I would just do that and see for yourself. You can also go into a store (Bethesda or Tyson’s) and do a ride there to try it out. FWIW I’ve had it for 2 years and my DH and I use it nearly every day. We love it, and we do other exercise too (weights etc, either with the peloton app - cast to our tv - or without). Before the peloton, id done a few spinning classes and liked them, but otherwise couldn’t get to the gym very often and did hardly any exercise.

Exactly. Has there been one person who actually owns a Peloton say they wish they hadn’t bought it on any of the 900 Peloton threads?

Amen. Usually the naysayers are people who don't have one.

Like anything, you have to use it, and if you're goal is weight loss then it's 80% diet. However, I've found the Peloton to inspire me to work out when I otherwise would not have done so, and I trained for two major international trips that were extremely strenuous mainly by using the Peloton and associated classes.

How does the actual quality of the Peloton bike compare to a bikes around the $1k price range? Right now I have a cheap bike (a Sunny that cost around $300) and honestly it's not very good. I wouldn't mind having a higher end bike, but is it worth it to pay and extra $1,300 or so for a Peloton, vs a cheaper but still high end bike and just pay for the app?

I had a good-quality spin bike for years and looked around for a comparable one when it needed to be replaced in 2017. I kept reading about Peloton and didn't think I was interested in the classes, but I bought it based on the reviews of the actual bike quality. But once I tried the classes and realized they were challenging enough for a seasoned fitness person, I was hooked on the whole package. It's held up quite well (knock on wood!) and Peloton is responsive to complaints. I am a heavy sweater and hard on fitness equipment. I expect I'll need to replace it at some point but hope that is still a year or so away.

1) you will get bored
2) your body will adapt
3) you will potentially get injured doing the same thing over and over again with no cross-training
4) you don't get the same calorie burn/workout as you do when you move the full weight of your body through space

Bored? Give me a break. I have a Peloton and I’m itching to use it everyday, it’s that much fun and motivating.

Go to the Tyson’s showroom and do a full ride or just pedal for a few. You’ll immediately see why this bike is different. The sales guys there are very knowledgeable and patient and make you feel at ease.

I have one. It is great. I mix up running with this. Also some weights / strength training. It is too expensive, but if you have the $$$, why not. Great solid machine and well integrated with monitor and software. Large choice of instructors and classes so no boredom, especiallly if you mix in other types of fitness training. Their app also has all kinds of other instructor led training. Yoga, running, strength, etc.
