The Invention of Hugo Cabret/Hugo
The BFG
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory/Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (Gene Wilder version)
Harry Potter series (but movies get too scary if you are reading books aloud to young ones)

The Secret Garden. I’m reading it now with my 10-year-old. I loved it as a kid, and she does too. I was kind of surprised given her usual taste for fantasy and excitement, but she’s really captivated by the story.

PP who said Paddington is spot on! (As Paddington himself would say)

Read the many sweet, short tales by Michael Bond and then watch both of the most recent live-action Paddington movies. Do see the first one first, as the second one works better if you know the fictional family's kids and how they change between the two films. Both movies are absolute delights--gorgeous to look at, funny, creatively filmed, engagingly acted, and Paddington himself is so wonderfully created that you forget he's CGI.

Our DD had all the stories on CD and for years listened to them in the car and at bedtime. She was much older when the first film came out but still adored it and the second one too. She was just home from college for Christmas break and one gift to her was the DVD of "Paddington 2"!

Going to lord of the rings but it’s taking me forever to read book 1 to my 10 year old haha.

I am sure this is blasphemy in some circles, but I thought the Lord of the Rings movies were much better than the books.
