Cannot find dog food that doesn’t upset puppy’s stomach

We had originally thought our lab needed a grain free diet but it turns out it was the protein choice that was key. He can eat salmon based foods but not other meats. He did well on taste of the wild salmon and the Kirkland knockoff. But we were concerned about news reports of cardiac problems with grain free diets so now he’s doing well on pro plan sensitive stomach. Good luck. It’s frustrating to try to find the right food.

If you want to keep the chicken and rice or similar home cooked meal, it is possible to do a phone consult with the Tufts University Vet Nutrition Center. Then they develop a nutritionally balanced therapeutic diet recipe for your dog. Our dog can only tolerate turkey, so hers is turkey, rice, some oil, and a product called Balance It Plus that makes it a complete dog food. It’s a powder. The proportions are important. You have to weigh ingredients and each day’s portion, but once you have routine down, you can make and freeze in one day portions. Our dog has done really well on this after sensitivities to many, many other products. Good luck.
