| Do you want people to nickname her Ellie or Ali? |
| I have seen Elissa only as a shortened name for Elizabeth. I like it. Alyssa seems kind of trashy to me. Not sure why. |
|
Elyse or Alice
Alyssa just looks trendy and Elissa is made up |
It does to me as well. It has a made up vibe to it. Probably has something to do with the Y. I know an Elyse that goes by Lysie but not sure how to spell it. Pronounced Lee-See. |
| I know several people with this name who spell it Alisa (pronounced Ah-lee-sa.) The double-s of your spelling would make me likely to pronounce it Eh-liss-ah or Ah-liss-ah. They're all fine names but if you want one or the other pronounciation, you should tailor the spelling accordingly. |
No, it’s not. |
Alyssa looks like a trend that passed already. And agree Elissa looks made up. |
|
Work with an Elisa, no one says it right (people say Eee-Lisa).
|
|
Different names, both trashy.
Elise and Alice are not trashy. |
| Hi! I'm an Elissa. I've spent 33 years dealing with all of the different spellings and pronunciations and people mistaking my name for a different name (Elise, Allison, Melissa). I like being an Elissa, but be forewarned that it's a tougher name than it appears to be. (My daughter is getting a name with exactly one possible spelling!) |
| Elissa looks more elegant to me. For some reason names that start with E read as more worldly than those with A (Ellie/Ally, Eva/Ava) |
Agreed. |
Agree. Elissa is like, “I’m trying to be unique but not TOO unique.” |
Alice is ugly and matronly. At least Alyssa sounds like she’s be a pretty, fun girl. |
|
I would have pronounced it as E-lissa.
If you said, “ Elissa”, I would expect that you were saying Alyssa and spell it that way. Poor kid will have to explain the name forever. If you saddle her with Elissa, at least train her to be gracious about the inevitable conversation. I had a unique last name prior to getting married, and it’s tiresome. |
