DH bought the right brake set on Amazon for less than $50 (Toyota Corolla), and paid his mechanic a couple hundred to install them and also to resurface the discs.

As usual in auto mechanics, it helps to know what the repair person is supposed to do.

dealers- particularly higher brands- use brakes as a huge profit center. Sometimes it even happens with run of the mill brands. I believe the worse offender are Land Rover dealers who try to justify stratospheric pad replacement citing automobile weight.

This is why you want a good independent mechanic.
