But did she? |
Not PP. Loving the kid you have can also mean recognizing that your kid would do well in an accelerated curriculum, is not best served by gen ed, but that wasn't reflected by test results. Though I do think it also means being content if after all reasonable advocating the school system disagrees. |
There is a difference between saying My child's NNAT was below the traditional cut off" and "My child's score was low."
A 121 is a very good score. It is nothing to be upset about. It might not put the child in the pool for AAP consideration but the parent can choose to parent refer. And the child will probably be just fine if they are in a gen ed classroom. The vast majority of kids in FCPS do not attend AAP and most of them will go on to take honors and AP/IB classes. Or the child might be eligible for level III services. |
I had one child score 121 and another scored 114 on NNAT. Both kids are now in AAP.
While a 121 is not good enough for in pool, it is not so bad to disqualify her. Both kids did well on Cogat and ironically did worst on the nonverbal, which is what the nnat also tests. Both kids got almost perfect scores on the quant section. |
That is not actually ironic at all. ![]() |
DP. Saying the score is low doesn't mean OP is upset. She's just acknowledging that it's low relative to a lot of the scores posted here. Lighten up. |
+1 |
It's not. Relative to all children and to children in AAP, it's fine. Children who score 140 on the NNAT are highly unusual anywhere, including in AAP. |
What am I missing? I don't feel like 121 is low. My 6 1/2 year old child got 105 and is 59th percentile. 121 seems like it would be near the top! |
The pool cut off is a 132 for either NNAT or one section of CogAT. A 121 is below that. It is a very good score but the parents will need to parent refer next year if the child's CogAT does not get to the 132 threshold. |
My kid got a 120 NNAT last year (89%) but did much better on the COGAT this year and we just found out is in pool. A lot happens between first and second grade plus the tests don't necessarily catch a kid on a good day. Oddly, while he didn't ace the NNAT, he got a great score on the nonverbal part of the COGAT. Like I said, a lot changes in that 1 year. |
what is good RAW score for 95th percentile
|
Being in pool doesn't mean you will be selected for AAP Program. |
My DD scored 127 which was 95%. |
