I was expected to handle all of this on my own when I got my permit. If you are old enough to drive, you need to handle all of the responsibilities that go with it.

I’m all for teens taking responsibility, but at the same time the requirements for RealID compliance are a bit confusing and specific. I went through it twice, once for my own license and again when my older kid got a learners permit. Both times I saw multiple adults turned away because they didn’t have the right combination of documents. No way would I risk a long wait in line only to find my kid hadn’t fully understood what was needed (plus, in my house at least, important documents like birth certificates and SS cards are in a locked fireproof box for safety so my kid would have to involve me anyway to get them).

What kind of idiot parent would leave something like this (legal documents, etc.) up to a 15 yr. old?

First of all the website was designed for idiots— it does everything but literally hold your hand.

Second, if your kid can’t do this then are they ready to be behind the wheel of a large automobile?

DCUM, never change.
