Meaning, 500K for a house, not the salary. |

This is what you get for 450k in a nice suburb of Atlanta (Johns Creek), will all 9 rated schools:

I would take me current $65k salary and move to Atlanta if I could. You can buy a condo right smack in Midtown ATL for $250k or less. Good luck trying to find that in DC.

I know a few couples with Arlington-Marriott commutes. It seems to be bearable if you can afford upper NWDC/close-in Bethesda. |
Which OP can't. |
Jesus. What the hell am I doing here! |
| Hi OP. I agree with the advice given here. I would be so happy to leave DC for a lower COL area like Atlanta. Plus you are both 29 and will probably be thinking about kids in the next five years. You don’t want to get into the rat race of the greater DC area unless the pay increase is substantial. |
Not if she wants to buy a house - if she's ok renting or buying a 2br condo, they can swing it on 180K. |
Yes but if you work midtown/downtown it 1 to 1 hr 15 min each way. Not a lot of transportation options (though some) . |
| No. Stay in ATL and job search. COL is really high here. $90k is not going to get you very far. |
| You’d be moving to Virginia. NOT dc |
I'm currently in exile in Charlotte. Don't do it. This place is awful. |
What wrong with Charlotte? |
Nonsense. |
