Amazing to read about the double standard. When a lot of BS was done by the Obama administration, "leaks" and being "woke" was NOT OK.
Those of us NOT OK with an Obama election or re-election, were not encouraged to attempt a coup. |
I am not taking about a coup. Whether I think a policy is bad or good is really irrelevant in this case. But I feel we should tell the public the truth. I asked the underling political yesterday about this and he waved me off. So I will be writing an email with a recommendation that we include the info. The email will be ignored but I (used to) get paid to advise, so I’m advising. |
It's FOIAable as long as you're not an attorney. They don't let attorney client privilege or advice out the door. |
Yes, poster you replied to is an idiot... Signed, Retired federal Law Enf./Legal manager |
You drafted a policy that, by your own admission, harms vulnerable groups (you used the word "egregious", remember?). If you all had the balls to quit we'd be in much better shape. But no, you cling to your GS14 salary and illusion of moral high ground over the appointees, when you're actually much worse. |
Not an idiot. Signed, former fed |
Question: Is the OP had not referenced the fact that her boss is a political appointee, and told the exact same story referencing "her boss", or if the same scenario played out in the private or nonprofit sector, would the reaction of many of these posters have been the same? I doubt it.
Every day everywhere people are told to do things in the workplace that they personally do not want to do, or think is not the right decision or direction. Ninety percent of the time, we all collectively agree that it is part of employment, and it sucks, but we just do it. I work in an agency that is VERY MUCH affected by political changes in leadership. I understand my role as a high level civil servant is to bring my expertise to the table, to give my best advice, and then to execute on the decision that is eventually made. Sure, there is a line somewhere, and that line is illegality. Mere disagreement is something to take in stride... |
I don’t think you understand what public service means. |
So, you want OP to dramatically quit in protest, ruining her career and potentially her life, so that... what exactly would be accomplished? They will find someone else to do the work in a hot minute. And if they can’t find a civil servant they can hire a political special assistant who will. You are asking someone without any power to take a self-harming stand when the people who have power, Republican senators and political appointees, refuse to ever do the right thing. How does that logic work? |
What are you even talking about? We are not talking about Obama political appointees. Take your whataboutism and make your own thread. |
This thread really bugs me. I think a lot of liberals have this "burn the house down" mentality. They don't care what our work is, the impact we make on society or anything else, they just keep calling feds traitors for not quitting. Reporters also think this way. The vast majority of Americans are more moderate however, in my experience.
I work on a heavily impacted program (environmental regulation) and have even had run ins with strangers when I mention where I work. They think we should be striking or quitting or standing up to our bosses. The vast majority of feds are apolitical and care deeply for public service and our work. We aren't willing to burn it all down just because it's been a rough 3 years, we will wait it out and then see our programs work again after. |
Why are Trump appointees such mean-spirited people? |
(former fed): i am team tip off the media. |
I do believe this is a protected right of federal employees (current fed) |
Not OP- So hypothetically speaking how would someone go about tipping the media without being found out? Are there still web cafes out there. |
