No. Did NOT happen. I saw them this morning. A flight of four USAF F 15c's, loose 2+2 formation, heading 70deg east/northeast over the Bethesda area, about 3k AGL, maybe 400knts There is no way you heard a sonic boom. Or have ever heard one. Because if you ever had, you wouldn't call the simple jet noise you heard this morning a "sonic boom". If those planes had gone supersonic, you'd have thought your house had exploded. They wouldn't break the sound barrier over a populated area. There'd be literally thousands of broken windows below. |

I grew up in Cold War Berlin, where the Russians and East German regularly broke the sound barrier to harrass and annoy either the West Germans or the Allies. No, it doesn't break your windows, but it is pretty loud. |
