Is “WASP” culture still a thing?

There's no shortage of them and they'll always produce babies. Even when humanity starts dying off, they'll be able to afford the medical intervention to spawn.

Richmond has a huge contingent. They belong to the Country Club of Virginia (CCV) and send their children k-12 to St. Catherine’s/St. Christopher’s.

Also, Myers Park area of Charlotte.

And these are just the towns I know personally.

I see a lot here in Belair.

It died the day I moved to California. The only wasps are the ones buzzing around my garden.

We will always be a thing. May have to share the spotlight. May also continue to be under appreciated

Let's see....all of our presidents except two have been WASPs...check. Virtually all presidential candidates are WASPS. Yeah, I think it still exists.

It’s true that almost all US presidents have been White Protestants, but that doesn’t mean they were WASPs. Carter, Clinton, Johnson, Nixon—definitely not WASPs.

Sending kids to catholic school is not a thing that WASPs do.

Characteristics include private schools, country and yacht clubs, lots and lots of cocktail parties. Being social is very much part of WASP culture. Other markers include having a second home at a NE enclave, having a mean backhand, a good golf game, knowing your way around a boat and good skiing ability. Kids play lax and hockey (but this has spread to the Catholics and Jews so no longer exclusively WASP). Having a messed up kid or two, or at least one who works at a sailing shop rather than Wall St. is pretty par for the course.

And, of course, not being showy with one’s money is the number one characteristic.

+1 This is spot on. I'd add in boarding schools too.

Not the PP, but St Catherine’s and St Christopher’s are both affiliated with the Episcopal church, not Catholic.

Correct. A WASP is not simply someone who meets the literal definition. I am technically a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant, but was not raised in nor do I now live in the WASP world. We simply didn’t/don’t have the money for it. My parents were blue collar and I married a Jew.

Certain kinds of WASPS in NE, different than Southern cultures, often confused - unless you pay careful attention.

+2. I work with a Boston Brahmin, and while he doesn’t bring it up, others at the office do.

I'm surprised your office knows/cares; that's wild. I doubt anyone in my office knows or follows that scene.
