Kids who attend private K, what grade would they attend at public school, public K or public Grade 1?

It depends on the parent. Some will go to K, some will go to 1st. Some privates will allow your child to start and you stay in K-1 and transfer in 2nd.

I wish I had done what your friends are doing with my late summer birthday boy. Most likely they are evaluating how the year will go and then deciding whether to go K or 1st. Once you stick your late summer birthday kid in MCPS K you are stuck unless they are completely failing academically. Of course depends on the kid, but being a boy kid in the grade is especially tough, especially if there are any learning/behavior issues.

As for people that push their kids ahead with fall birthdays, I don't understand that at all. Sure, the early elementary years might be a little slow but do you really want to send your kid off to HS at 13 and college at 17? Seems very short-sighted to me but to each their own.

I feel sad for boys now as parents treat them as lesser to girls and assume they are not as capable. We have a fall birthday. Child turns 18 a few weeks into college. Yes, I want to send my child at 18, not 19.
