Yes, THIS is why. —first grade teacher |

My 4th grade teacher did that. It made it easier for her to organize and find papers. I was #11. My best friend was #2. (Crazy what you remember!)
I would not worry about this. It was an organizational quirk she used to streamline her work. She was nonetheless the best ES teacher I had. |

Teacher here echoing other posters that this is really common and it helps with paperwork management. Put papers in a stack and it's really easy to notice that #12 is missing as opposed to having to figure out that Larla's paper is missing.
This is an extremely common strategy used by teachers at all grade levels and in public and private schools. |
This was the practice at both private ES my DD attended. |
Yes! It also helped me memorize the kids’ names faster. By week two, I could take attendance anywhere without a paper. Think of it as a mind palace for the teacher. Very common. |
| It's a common hack for teachers when they're trying to grade papers so they can easily make sure they have all the papers from every student |
+1 I did this every year when I was a classroom teacher. Helps the littles get lined up for lunch/recess so much faster. Also helps when organizing files and papers to grade. |
