I disagree. I didn’t find the movie scary at all and I watched it for the first time as a tween. I saw it again recently (5 years ago or so) and it was almost laughable.

I loved the movie back when I saw it, and now think it's pretty cool that I live in Mount Rainier, where the actual events are purported to have taken place. I didn't know about that before moving to Mount Rainier.

scariest movie I've ever seen. (I saw it as a teen, and I'm dang near 50 now.) I would never read the book. 1) because it's too scary and 2) do not want to invite evil by even entertaining or opening myself up like that.
