Call it a birthay fiesta. Have the food and a piñata. Do bright colored flowers or paper poms for centerpieces. No sombreros, mustaches, cactus. You can probably play a variety of music including mariachi. |
These decorations are fine. https://www.partycity.com/caliente-fiesta-decorating-kit-4pc-428723.html?cgid=cinco-de-mayo-decor
Sombreros and ponchos are not. |
We had a fiesta party last year - "Taco Two-sday" for my DS's 2nd birthday. The taco bar was one of the easiest party foods I've ever done! There were taco balloons, cactus balloons (not sure why that's racist?), and lots of bright paper fans and decorations. Found the fiesta tableware from Oriental Trading/Amazon. I also gave out little maracas as favors - no "traditional" Mexican designs or anything on them, they just looked like neon baby rattles.
I completely agree no sombreros, ponchos, mustaches, etc, and I'm pretty laid back when it comes to all of these things... |
Ha that is cute. |
+ 1 on the mariachi |
Omg educational party? What a buzz kill. And please stop trying to teach people how to be more Mexican. |
OP here. Yeah I'm not the one who mentioned that. I do speak Spanish, but am not Hispanic or Mexican in any way. I was going to have a banner say "Cinco" but that's the extent. OK thanks all. I will just do colorful banners, taco bar. I'll look into the mariachi band. There's one at our favorite Mexican restaurant that we see weekly. |
