Buying a car for high school kid

Anonymous
Our kid gets to drive our older car, which is a 2008. We will not be buying our kids a car. They can buy their own cars with their own money, when they get jobs and can pay the car bill.

I drove a beater car to college and I worked hard so I could buy my own. I was so proud of that car, too. Let kids have something to work for in life.

^^ my mom's 1980s two-door Oldsmobile was my beater car^^

Where do you buy cars for your kids? Craigslist's or dealers? Are private parties always better than dealers especially small dealers?

But kids need to learn to drive without them so that they concept that they HAVE to look over their shoulder and put the back before putting the car in reverse. And continue to look. The camera is just another mirror. But WAY to many people solely rely on the camera which has blind spots.

Why is Subaru better than other models? For same price, which one is less preferred, molder year older than 2010 or mileage higher than 100k?

Read the safety ratings and you’ll understand.

I would buy either the Honda or the Subaru.

Brands@ are extremely important when it comes to longevity & maintenance co$ts.

Resale value as well.

I'd get the Subaru or Honda. I don't want to pay to fix a Lexus. It's a safe, reliable car.

Less flashy is better for a new driver. The safest thing is to never get in an accident, having an older car makes them less prone to show off and make stupid decisions.

I am not buying my son rising HS senior a car. He got his license and eager to drive. He wants to have his own car. I told him since I am paying 45K/year tuition for him @Sidwell, if he wants a car, I will put in public school and use that money to buy him a new car. I told him that back in Jun when we were about to pay school tuition. I haven't heard from my son about wanting a new car since. I guess he prefers Sidwell over a new car. HS kid should not get a car.
