| I don't understand why people love the weather in San Francisco. SoCal i get, but not NoCal. |
SF city itself sucks, but the Peninsula area just outside SF is fabulous. Even SV area is pretty good. |
| From having family in SF, the weather is fantastic! While cold 40F in winter and rainy, there is no snow or ice. However, my relatives live an hour and half away from the city and still have a $800K house that in Nova would go for $500K. Forget about living on odd jobs unless you are Paris Hilton and have a lot of money. Google has priced everything out of range of the average worker. You will miss DC proper, the green and clean city. SF has gone downhill with the smell of feces and pee everywhere(I used to love going into the city). I'd say the DC economy is better as well. If you have money-then by all means move to Northern CA. Otherwise DC is better-weather excluded. |
Yes, with all that.. it is SO horrible there that NOBODY lives there anymore. Except it is so expensive and you can't find anything affordable.
|
I live in SF. I've never turned on the heat in the over dozen years I've lived here. It's basically between 50-80 most of the year. Rain is minimal. On the East side of the city (SF Bay side vs Pacific Ocean side) it's rarely foggy. |
| We moved to MD from SF (city, not a suburb). The weather is better in SF although it even varies depending on neighborhood due to microclimates. And it quite scenic and beautiful. Marin is expensive and the only way to get into the city if you work is by car over the GG bridge or ferry. There is a big culture difference as well. East coast is much more traditional and Bay Area more loopy or radical, depending on your crowd. Food definitely better in SF area. |
How is work life. Outside of big law, DC seems very 9-5. I hear Bay Area is 60 hr work weeks, but you work in dribs and drabs from wherever, so like WAH when wake up, in office 10-3, then afternoon off for recreation and family, then work like 3 hrs in evening at home. And always some work on weekend, but like 4 hours in the morning sat and sun. So work and life blend, but it feels manageable b/c of flexibility??? |
The air there is a little smoky these days. |
| Do you support uncompassionate liberalism? If you can deal with the batsh!t crazy socialism, go for it!! |
The liberal elite are protecting their neighborhoods and doing everything possible to prevent low income housing to be built. Hopefully all those in the service sector, cashiers, waitstaff, cleaners, babysitter, police, fire will get sick of commuting 2+ hours each way from Stockton into S.F. and the elites will have hallowed out their city. |

Working odd jobs will lead to a terrible quality of life OP. Bay Area is one of the few parts of the country more expensive than DC.
Why not Portland or Seattle? They’re not super cheap either but way more affordable than SF and you still get the laid back attitude, proximity to nature, good food, etc of SF (and also the homeless and drug issues unfortunately) |
NP. I agree with you that the liberals have wrecked California, but aren't they doing the same in the DMV? |
They are trying. Hopefully voters will learn a lot faster than in San Francisco. Seattle is also nearing the takeover of lawlessness. |

If you dig a little deeper you will uncover the reason why sites like Reddit call out Southern Marin folks as subhuman. Have you heard about the desegregation order for Marin City.. 5 minutes from all white Tiburon, Belvedere, and Mill Valley?. Have you looked up the staff at the schools to see if there is any diversity? Have you heard about the Dixie school name change? Did you hear what happened to Matt Nagle when he ran against Mary Jane Burke? Did you hear about the Marin Coroner sexually abusing his daughter? Or the Branson sexual assault probe? Or how about the pedophile ring? The corruption here is off the charts. When I moved here from DC I thought It was odd no one talks to their neighbors, or seems to have genuine friendships, now I understand why, waaay too many toxic small town dynamics to deal with. Actually, most of the Town Town Council members and County staff move away after their terms expire.. Tiburon’s former Mayor moved to Mclean I heard. I thought I would buy myself a place up in Sonoma to get a little further away from it all... until I learned why all the people in the know sold their homes and moved back closer to the city and hospitals with various cancers and endocrine problems due to the insecticides being sprayed. Oh and did you hear about the problems with the anchor outs and the toxicity found in the fog that blankets the area?
I would take the change of seasons, travel options, manners, schools, and the racism in DC over ‘beautiful life’ in SF Bay, Marin County any day. |
| Take a look at the suicide rates for Marin County compared to other Counties in California. |
