Not to hijack, but I REALLY don't get the Trader Joe's mystique. I've tried several times to shop there, and I always end up walking out with nothing. It's mostly frozen items that are processed in some way, the produce section is skimpy, the dairy is overpriced - I just don't get it.

I also buy Generic drugs as long as the active ingredients match up with the name-brand drugs. That said, my children demand Claritin grape vs. the generic stuff. They hate how the generic stuff tastes - no matter which brand.

I have had good luck with Target's store brand - Archer something or another. And Kirkland's is also decent - especially their babywipes - the problem comes in having to buy so much of it.

I felt the same way about Trader Joes until a few years ago, when time became a higher priority and I was no longer able to cook with fresh veggies all the time. I dislike frozen veggies, but Trader Joe's had hands-down the best frozen veggies I have tried. I also like some of their other convenient frozen products (not all of course). I also find it's great for cookies, crackers and snacks, that "aren't that bad" (lower sugar, have whole grains) compared to other brands of comparable price. Same with some of their boxed stuff (whole grain couscous, multigrain pancake mix). While the produce is minimal, I do pick up pre-sliced Mango every time I go. My son loves fresh mango and I cannot for the life of me pick out a good one and cut it properly. And...the mini peanut butter cups - are good enough to encourage me to make excuses to go.
